” All art has been contemporary” Art history lectures @ Ateliers ’89

Is the title of a series of eight art history lectures that André Klein, of the Gerrit Rietveld     Academy of Amsterdam, Holland, will be given at the Ateliers ’89.

* The first lecture, titled ” Art Shower” is an introduction about the various ways we perceive art, how different                cultures look at art and comparisons during centuries, after which follows three lectures discussing the history            development chronologically with the references and links to contemporary examples.                                                                           * The second night, is about the period far before AD to the early Middle Ages.                                                                                                 * The third meeting, covers the period from the Middle Ages to around circa 1800.                                                                                        * The fourth lecture, covers the period of 1800 until now. Despite the chronological approach, there are still links to                        the  present laid. During the second week the lectures are centered around thematic topics. Lecture  five, is about                         a special exhibition realized in 1986 by Belgian Museum Director and Curator, Jan Hoet, in the city of Gent, called                    “Chabres d’ Ami”,(rooms of friends) an exhibition in 50 private homes and discusses the concept  of the curator/                           how to set up exhibition.                                                                                                                                                                                                         * Meeting six, is coincidentally , about six gardens and labyrinths. Garden design is a frequent theme used by different                cultures and artists.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Lecture seven, deals with the Venice Biennial, a monster Art exhibition held every two years in Venice, Italy, and where           presented and where participating countries show case their best artists. * The last evening, lecture eight , is about art in        public space, the role of art in public spaces will be discussed and very divers will be highlighted.
