Writing is the next workshop at Ateliers ’89 Foundation with young Dutch writing celeb Miss Alma Mathijsen. Starting Monday September the 9 until October 3.

 

Alma is coming to Aruba

Writer Alma Mathijsen aged 28, is one of the top young Dutch Literary writers of the moment and we are delighted to announce she is coming to Aruba.
Alma debuted her stories at the age of 21. She has also written 5 plays and has publications in various magazines and newspapers. Alma’s work has been published regularly, her first novel ‘Alles is Carmen’ was released two years ago and within  a week the film writes were sold, the film is in pre-production at this time.
Alma is currently working on her second novel and hopes to release it at the beginning of 2014, again with ‘De Bezige Bij’  Now she is planning a month long visit to Aruba to share what she has learned along the way. Everybody can write, everybody has a story to tell but to engage a reader it is important to know how to build your story. How is a good story structured?  What tools do you need to make your story engaging? How do you find your readers?

Lets take a look at Alma Mathijsen the writer?

Alma began to write for the well known youth website spunk.nl when she was just eighteen years old. She made up half of the writing duo Fanny & Alma, published in the newspaper ‘Het Parool’. She has written five plays and many short stories. She studied Creative Writing at the Pratt Institue in New York for six months.
She gradutated from the department of ‘Image & Language’ at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2011. Her first novel debuted in September 2011, bij De Bezige Bij and the film writes were sold within a week.
Some of her appearances have included, Crossing Border, Oerol, Dicher Aan Huis, DWDD Jonge Schrijvers Avond, Manuscripta and Lowlands. Has publications in  nrc.next, Mister Motley, Het Parool, Das Magazin, Playboy e.a. Her second novel is expected to be released at the beginning of 2014.
